Taxi Apps in Syria
As of 17 September 2026, Damascus has ride-hail apps. Electro Taxi is on Google Play and the App Store (SANKARI GOLD; Android updated 23 June 2026). TaxiTel’s own site books by phone and WhatsApp and publishes no fares. US State: yellow taxis and local apps generally take cash. We did not complete a booking and we print no fare. Carry notes. Uber is not your pickup. Local apps and yellow cars are.
As of 17 September 2026, US State describes public taxis in Syria as yellow with large “taxi” signs, plus a few private companies and local ride-share apps. They generally require cash. We opened the store listings and official sites named below. We did not complete a booking. We print no fare.

Other names people type — Alia, Yalla, Tfadal — exist as rumours and as store tiles. We opened a Play listing titled Alia Taxi; the publisher on that tile was a UK personal account. Treat random store clones as untrusted until you confirm they match a Syrian company’s own domain. We are not ranking eight apps.
Electro Taxi
This is the app the Autocomplete actually names (electro taxi syria app).
On Play it is a maps-and-navigation listing: instant booking, live tracking, rate the trip, map destination. Updated 23 June 2026. The Driver listing is a different package, updated 28 February 2026, also SANKARI GOLD. Install the wrong one and you are offering rides, not taking one.
The App Store page we opened lists cash and digital payments. That is store copy, not a foreign-Visa test. Until a screen charges your card and a receipt exists, cash is the plan.
Sankari’s own Motorex write-up is marketing (electric fleet, “smart booking”). It does not publish a city tariff. Neither do we.
If the app finds no car — Play reviews talk about waiting on drivers — you have not failed the country. You have hit a thin fleet. Switch channel. Do not wait in arrivals with no cash.
TaxiTel, and the app with a similar name
TaxiTel the 2004 operator is a phone and WhatsApp company on the site we opened. Airport meet-and-greet, intercity, NGO contracts. Useful if you want a quoted car to DAM or to Aleppo, not a two-kilometre hop. They will price it. We will not guess. TaxitelPro on Play is a ride-hail store listing with a different publisher. Similar name. Different legal line on the store. If you install it, confirm in the first chat that you are talking to the fleet you intended. If you cannot, delete it and call 011 9338.
WhatsApp works in Syria for people who have data or hotel Wi-Fi. That is not the same as a taxi app.
Use WhatsApp for a ride when:
- TaxiTel (or a hotel desk) published that number —
taxitel.codoes — and you are requesting a quote, or - you cannot complete an app booking (no drivers, no OTP, no map pin) and the hotel gives you their driver number.
That second case is field practice, not a tariff. Agree the job and the currency before the car moves. Do not send a deposit to a random “agent” account.
A hotel WhatsApp that sends a car is often how the first airport run actually happens when the ride-hail app is empty. Still cash.
Uber, airport, Aleppo
Uber’s public cities page claims more than 15,000 cities. We did not open a live Damascus Uber product page. US State does not name Uber. Plan on Electro Taxi, a local app, TaxiTel, or a yellow car. Do not stand at DAM waiting for an Uber pin.
Airport: TaxiTel sells flight-tracked pickup. Electro Taxi’s iOS notes mention airport trip types in older changelog text. Yellow taxis sit on the curb. Agree the job. Cash. If you have a hotel confirmation, ask that desk to send a car before you land — booking channel: the hotels page.
Aleppo: TaxiTel publishes 021 9985. Electro Taxi’s store copy does not limit itself to one city, but a Damascus-heavy fleet may not save you at ALP. City risk is a different file: Is Aleppo safe to visit?.

Payment
US State: taxis and ride-shares generally require payment in cash. That line is enough. The currency page is how you carry dollars and pounds. This page will not tell you a DAM–Old City price. If an app shows one, that is that trip, that hour. Screenshot it. Pay what the screen and the driver both confirm.
Digital pay inside Electro Taxi is a listing claim. It is not a reason to arrive without notes.
Mistakes that leave you on the curb

The company dates itself to 2004 and sells in-city, intercity, and airport transfers. The homepage had no passenger-app download and no fare list. A Google Play app named TaxitelPro has a different publisher; do not assume it is the same fleet.
Does Uber work in Damascus?

Is Alia Taxi a real Syria app?
People type the name. We opened a Google Play listing titled Alia Taxi; the publisher on that tile was a UK personal account. Confirm any Alia install against a Syrian company’s own domain before you put in a passport-quality ID. Electro Taxi’s SANKARI GOLD listing and TaxiTel’s taxitel.co site are the two we could tie to identifiable operators on 17 September 2026.
