How to Book Hotels in Syria
As of 17 September 2026, Booking.com’s Damascus page had no Syrian rooms; its “Syria” city page listed Graves Mountain Farm in Syria, Virginia. Airbnb’s country search for Syria also resolved to Virginia. Book on a local site or with the hotel. SyriaBooking’s homepage offers pay-on-arrival; Rahal says it takes foreign cards. Pay the desk in cash unless they confirm your card this week.

You cannot book a Syrian hotel the way you book Amman. The global sites still point at the wrong country, or at nothing.
On 17 September 2026 Booking.com’s city page for Damascus, Syria had no hotel inventory — a generic “Where in Middle East will you go next?” shell. The same company’s city page titled “Syria” listed Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges next to Shenandoah National Park: Syria, Virginia, United States. Airbnb’s country search for “Syria” also resolved to Virginia.
US comprehensive Syria sanctions, as OFAC FAQ 1220 states, ended 1 July 2025 (page updated 24 August 2026). Caesar Act repeal is dated 18 December 2025 on that same FAQ. The platforms did not follow the calendar. A Khaleej Times piece on a Ministry of Tourism–patronised app put the founder’s line on the record: in Syria today there is no Airbnb or Booking.com; the old method is to call the hotel and transfer money.
So you book on a local site, or on WhatsApp with the hotel, and you still carry cash for the desk. Cards at some hotels are a late-August 2026 test, not a plan: Syria currency, cash, and cards.

That is the unique fact on this page: the OTAs you trust are not stale on price. They are pointing at another country, or at a brand that left.

Do not treat a screenshot of those dollar figures as your rate. Ask the desk what they want this week, in which currency, and whether a foreign card will clear. US State, same retrieval week: rely on cash rather than US-issued cards; hotel bills are often quoted in hard currency. UK FCDO: prices for some items listed in US dollars; electronic payment minimal or absent.
If a site wants a deposit to a personal account abroad, that is a different product from SyriaBooking’s “pay on arrival” line. Decide whether you can afford to lose the transfer.
Old City or a modern strip
This is a location choice, not a ranking. We will not print a best-of list. Named kitchens and courtyard hotels go stale; a member can name the key they held this month.

Do you need a booking to enter?
Mission checklists for a visa from an embassy still ask for proof of accommodation. At the airport and land windows, desks have asked for a ticket out more often than for a hotel printout. Process: How to get a Syria visa. Stamp and cash fee: visa on arrival.
A first-night reservation is still worth having so you are not bargaining in a driveway at midnight. It is not a substitute for the exit ticket.

Mistakes that strand you without a key
- Paying Graves Mountain Farm because Booking.com titled the page “Syria.”
- Waiting for Airbnb to “come back online” this month.
- Emailing Four Seasons corporate for a Damascus confirmation.
- Arriving with a card and no notes.
- Sending a deposit to a stranger who will “sort the hotel.”
- Treating a local-site dollar figure as a paid reservation.
- Assuming a foreign-branded tower is off the FCDO target list.

How do I book a hotel in Syria?
As of 17 September 2026, not on Booking.com or Airbnb. Booking.com’s Damascus city page had no Syrian inventory; its “Syria” page is Syria, Virginia. Can I book Syria hotels on Booking.com?
Not as of 17 September 2026. The Damascus, Syria city page showed no rooms. The city page titled “Syria” listed Graves Mountain Farm in Syria, Virginia, United States. That is a different country. US comprehensive Syria sanctions ended 1 July 2025 (OFAC); the catalogue did not follow.
Does Airbnb work in Syria?
A country search for “Syria” on Airbnb on 17 September 2026 resolved to Virginia vacation rentals. Do not wait for that app to become your booking channel this month. Use a local site or the hotel directly.
Do Syrian hotels take credit cards?
Treat cash US dollars as the plan. US State still says rely on cash rather than US-issued cards; hotel bills are often in hard currency. The UK FCDO says electronic payment is minimal. Visa and Mastercard ran first international tests in late August 2026, including hotels in a phased QNB rollout; coverage is not nationwide. Ask the hotel in writing whether they take your network. Should I stay in Damascus Old City or a modern hotel?
Old City if you want to walk to the Umayyad and the souq. A modern strip (Mezze, Maysaloun, museum area) if you want a car, a larger property, or a changer in a 4-star desk. Neither is a safety rating. The UK FCDO lists hotels as possible terrorist targets and records IEDs outside the Four Seasons on 7 July 2026. We are not ranking named hotels.
Is Four Seasons Damascus a Four Seasons hotel?
Not as a chain booking. Four Seasons’ own page says the Damascus hotel is no longer managed by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. The building still uses the name. Loyalty points and corporate standards do not apply. The UK FCDO recorded an attack outside that driveway on 7 July 2026.
Do I need a hotel booking for a Syria visa?
