Pai for two nights or skip it?
Minivan from Chiang Mai is the cost. The town is not the cost. First-timers keep asking if two nights pays for the road.
The road is the decision
| Trip | Pai | Skip |
|---|---|---|
| 10 days, first time, already cutting places | Skip | The 10-day itinerary treats Pai as a side quest |
| You already like the north and can give it a full day plus two sleeps | Two nights is the minimum people who did the road still defend | One night is mostly the van |
| You will not ride a scooter on 762 curves | Two nights in town / canyon by songthaew or a day tour, or skip | The countryside loop is a bike product |
Arcade minivans are the usual hop: on the order of 3–4 hours, roughly 150–300 THB depending on operator and season. They sell out in December. There is no flight.
Late August is rain and curves, not burning-season haze. Haze is typically March — check burning season before you book the van for late Feb–April.
How many nights you have in Chiang Mai total. That decides it.
