Chiang Mai

Halal food in Chiang Mai that is not a mall?

Bangkok already has the Nana thread. I need the north: not pork, Muslim-run if possible, not only a food court in a shopping centre.

Where the mosques are is where the kitchens are

AreaWhy people send you there
Chang Khlan / Night BazaarBan Haw Mosque and a dense Muslim quarter; khao soi shops and Indian/Middle Eastern rooms sit on that grid
Charoen Prathet / AnusarnEvening stalls; look for Muslim-owned signs, not a laminated “HALAL” on a pork kitchen
Chang Phuak / San Pa KhoiOther mosque catchments if you are staying north of the moat

HalalTrip and local Muslim guides name Ban Haw, Chang Phuak, and San Pa Khoi as the mosque map. Khao soi in this city is historically a Chin Haw / Muslim-kitchen story — the useful shop is the one next to the mosque, not the one with the biggest English menu on Nimman.

“No pork” and “certified only” are different maps. Say which. Bangkok thread is a different city: search Nana/Asok on this feed.

How strict, and Nimman or Chang Khlan. That is the map.

Chang Khlan, not Nimman, if you want Muslim-run as the default. Ban Haw is the landmark. Walk that grid.

Khao soi next to the mosque on the Charoen Prathet side is the usual pointer. English menu size is not the test.

Mai ao muu if you are “no pork” but not certified. Different sentence from a Muslim-owned kitchen. Say which in the first line.

Night Bazaar food court is mixed. Do not assume the whole market is fine because one stall has a sign.

Prayer times: mosques on that map are close enough that food and Dhuhr can be the same walk. Stay near Chang Khlan if that matters every day.

Indian / Pakistani rooms on Chang Khlan are the backup when you are tired of guessing at stalls. Not “authentic north,” just reliable.

Sunday Walking Street inside the moat is a different hunt. Do not expect Chang Khlan density there.

Alcohol in the pan: Muslim-run is the short answer. “No pork” at a tourist cafe is not the same kitchen.

Breakfast roti / massaman on that stretch before the bazaar wakes up. Evenings are easier than 8am.

Mall food courts exist. You asked for not-a-mall. You will walk more and eat better for it near the mosque, not at Maya.

Staying in Nimman. Is a Grab to Chang Khlan every meal stupid or is that actually the move.

If every meal has to be certified, sleep closer to Chang Khlan. Nimman is cafes. You will spend the trip in traffic for dinner.
