Chiang Mai or Bangkok for a 30-day extension?

Same TM.7 idea, different queues. Officers decide. Not legal advice. Checked 9 Sep 2026: the tourism add-on people describe is 30 days, cash often 1,900 THB, photo, copies, passport. The extension itself was not changed by the September rule change.

Pick the office you can actually reach

IfOffice habit people reportWhy it matters
You are already in the northChiang Mai ImmigrationYou are not adding a Bangkok hotel night just to queue
You are already in BangkokChaeng Watthana (or the office your district uses)One trip; go early
Stamp dies in three days and you are on an islandThe nearest Immigration, not a Facebook agentLast-day is a bad plan either city

Same bundle shows up in 2026 how-tos: TM.7, 4×6 photo as posted, copies of biodata + arrival stamp, cash, sometimes TM.30 / address. Guide: extend a tourist stay. Immigration locator: immigration.go.th.

The 30-day replacement of the tourism exemption was published in the Royal Gazette on 31 Aug 2026 and applies to arrivals from 15 Sep 2026. So the arithmetic now usually starts from a 30-day stamp rather than a 60-day one: what changed.

Office, nationality, and stamp date — otherwise replies are folklore.

Chiang Mai: go early. Same 1,900 cash story. Photo size as posted on the wall, not the size your phone printed at 7-Eleven by guesswork.

You get +30 on whatever is already in the passport if they grant it. 60+30 is the arithmetic people use while the 60-day exemption is still in force. Gazette is still unpublished as of 30 Aug 2026.

Ploy already posted Chaeng Watthana on this feed: morning, cash, copies. Same bundle, different office. Still not a promise that your Thursday looks like that.

Can I extend VoA the same way. I keep seeing “do not assume.”

Do not assume VoA extends like an exemption. Ask the office that will handle you. The stamp is the starting point.

TM.30: some offices ask if the hotel filed it. Bring the booking or a letter. Do not discover that at the window with 40 people behind you.

DTV is not this queue. Different path. Do not bring DTV questions into a TM.7 morning.

Phuket office vs flying to Bangkok just to extend. I am already in Kata. Flying is a day and a hotel. Use the island office.

Phuket queues exist. Same cash, same photo. “Bangkok is easier” is not a reason to buy a flight if you are already here.

Last day of the stamp. Bad plan in both cities. Go earlier.

Card payment. Offices often want cash. Take 1,900 plus a buffer, not a hope that Visa works.

After the Gazette, does +30 still exist on a 30-day exemption. I will not book winter on a forum guess.
