Grab or Bolt in Bangkok?

Both apps installed. Same pickup, two prices. As of 30 Aug 2026 I want a rule, not a brand speech.

Install both before you fly. OTP still wants a working number. Quote the live fares, not a blog range from May.

Neighbourhood and time of day. Otherwise “Bolt is cheaper” is folklore.

Install both. I open them standing still at the same pin. The cheaper one that actually has a car in 4 minutes wins. Brand loyalty is how you overpay.

Rain at 18:00: Grab. Bolt can look cheaper and then sit on “finding driver.” I would rather pay 30 baht than wait in a flood.

Airport is still the signed pickup. Bolt or Grab, if the pin is the public road you will watch it cancel. That is not a brand issue.

Meter taxi from the official airport queue can undercut both if there is no surge. Compare including tolls. The app is not automatically the expensive one.

Does Bolt need a Thai number for OTP the same way Grab does.

Chiang Mai: Grab is the one that actually shows up at 23:00 in Nimman. Bolt is a Bangkok-density product in my experience. Do not assume the same gap up here.

Phuket town has Grab. I would not plan a Bolt-only week on the island. Density is the product.

Bolt asked me for a number the same way Grab did. I would not plan on discovering the OTP at the kerb. Install both on home data. inDrive is a third quote I have not used.
