Checkpoints are real at Nimman sois and Old City gates — 500 baht fine without valid license plus IDP (home license alone not enough). Hospitals see scooter crashes daily; helmet always, sober only. Photo every scratch before leaving the shop — damage scams exist. Songthaew 30 baht covers most city days; I only scoot for Doi Suthep sunrise or Samoeng loop with experience.
