Friends say just day-trip White Temple from CM. Is 12–14 hours on a van worth it?

Chiang Mai day trip Chiang Rai brutal 12–14 hr door to door ~1 hr each temple van destroyed faces common story. Bus Arcade station 3 hr 200 baht stay 2 nights minimum or fly CEI airport Bangkok. Night bazaar alone beats same-day return. White Temple 8:30am needs overnight. Learned hard way pinned PSA every week.
