Stay inside the UNESCO buffer zone: Muntri Street, Love Lane, Armenian Street, and Lorong Stewart for restored shophouse hotels — 23 Love Lane, Muntri Mews, Campbell House tier (RM350–600). You walk to murals and breakfast kopitiams without Grab. Avoid Gurney and Batu Ferringhi for heritage vibe — that's mall/beach land. Upper floors are quieter (no scooter noise at 6am). Book direct sometimes beats Agoda for boutique places. Trade-off: no pool; heritage wins on character. Cheong Fatt Tze (Blue Mansion) is the icon if budget stretches.
