Penang ferry to Butterworth — half day worth it?
Heard the old ferry is scenic. Anything to do on mainland or just ride back?

The Penang ferry (Pengkalan Weld to Butterworth) costs about RM1.20 for pedestrians — 15–20 min crossing, classic harbour views of GT skyline and port cranes. Half day is enough: ferry over, coffee near Butterworth terminal, optional quick look at the old railway station mural area, ferry back. Mainland doesn't need a full day unless you're catching ETS train north. Newer fast ferries exist but the old blue boats are the experience. Go clear morning; hazy afternoons flatten photos. Last ferry timing changes — check Rapid Ferry schedule before sunset plans.
Ride for the harbour view, walked around Butterworth 20 min, came back. RM2 well spent.
Butterworth nasi kandar for lunch if you stay — different shops than GT, not essential.
