Love Lane or Chulia Street for backpackers?
Budget RM80–120/night, want bars + hawkers walkable. Which lane is less party-noise at 2am?

Love Lane and upper Chulia are the classic backpacker belt — guesthouses RM80–150, speakeasies and Reggae bars on Love Lane. Chulia Street itself is louder with hawkers till midnight and better for food than sleep — pick a guesthouse on a side lane (Muntri, Stewart) if you want quiet. Love Lane party noise until 2am Friday/Saturday is real — ask for a back room or stay one block east toward Armenian St for heritage boutique quiet. Both are walkable to Komtar CAT bus and Armenian St murals.
Old Penang Guesthouse on Love Lane — social, thin walls, knew what I signed up for.
