Hotel concierge pushed Gurney. Locals on Meet Locale say New Lane. First visit — which is honest?

Gurney Drive hawker center is the famous postcard — big variety, sea breeze, easy for nervous first-timers. Prices run tourist-heavy and some stalls coast on reputation. New Lane (Lorong Baru) from 6pm is where office workers actually eat — char koay kak, duck rice, lok lok, lower prices. Do Gurney once for the experience, eat seriously at New Lane or Kimberley the other nights. Chulia Street night market is the middle ground. Concierge gets commission — trust your stomach, not the lobby.

Pulau Tikus market morning is the third option locals gatekeep — not night, different vibe.

Gurney has everything in one row — convenient, prices inflated 20–30%. New Lane felt more local on night 2.
