Buying alcohol in KL — laws and where tourists go
Not a party animal — couple of beers with dinner. Heard Malaysia is strict. Supermarket or bars only?

Malaysia isn't dry — alcohol is legal for non-Muslims 21+, sold in supermarkets (Chinese-majority areas easier), convenience stores with licenses, and licensed bars/restaurants. Changkat Bukit Bintang and Bangsar are tourist drinking zones — expect RM18–35 per pint. Some Malay-run restaurants don't serve alcohol; Chinese and Western places do. Don't drink on the street or near mosques — social norm, not always posted law. Selangor/KL had on-off debates about 7-Eleven beer sales — availability varies by store; larger grocers in Bangsar and Brickfields are reliable. Friday prayer hours: respect quiet near mosques. Muslims aren't buying — you won't offend by having a beer in a licensed venue.
Heineken at Jalan Alor seafood stalls — some have it cold, some don't bother stocking it.
7-Eleven in BB sold beer — drank on hotel balcony, nobody cared. Changkat bars pricier but atmosphere.
