Chinatown (Pasar Seni) or Bukit Bintang for first trip?
Want atmosphere and street photos, not mega-malls. 4 nights, mid-range budget. Heard BB is touristy — is Chinatown too gritty?

For a first trip I'd still pick Bukit Bintang for ease — monorail at your door, Jalan Alor at night, safer well-lit sidewalks. Chinatown (Pasar Seni / Petaling Street) is great for daytime exploring and photos, and LRT Kelana Jaya line connects to KLCC in 15 minutes. Staying there saves RM30–50/night on hotels but Petaling Street gets loud and the fake-goods crowd is pushy after 8pm. Split if you can: 2 nights BB, 2 nights Chinatown guesthouse near Pasar Seni station for atmosphere.
Gritty is overstated — it's busy, not dangerous in the tourist strip. Watch your phone in the covered market. Grab to BB is RM10–15 off-peak if you want dinner variety.
Chinatown has vibe — Petaling Street market, old shophouses, Central Market walkable. Hotels are cheaper but rooms vary a lot. BB is polished chaos.
