Kids want beach after Legoland. Drive east realistic?

Desaru 1.5–2 hr from CIQ — doable overnight better than day trip with kids. Desaru Coast waterpark + beach resorts if budget allows. Day trip tight: leave 7am, beach lunch, back JB dinner exhausted. Ferry from JB exists seasonal — check dates. Legoland + Desaru same trip needs 3 nights JB. Rainy season rough seas. Alternative: Danga Bay closer but less beach quality.
