Kata Noi and Kata south end have seasonal surf May–Oct swells — beginner lessons 1200–2000 baht with board included. Nov–Apr often flat — lessons still run but boring bobbing. One morning intro realistic; rent board only if instructor says you're ready — reef and rocks hurt. Surf schools on beach row — compare insurance included. Kids 8+ some schools accept with parent waiver. Patong has no real surf — go Kata side. Morning less wind.
